What changed at the same time

  • The fastest decline of "Fertility (TFR)" was in 1967–1977: 2.79 → 1.76. Over the same years: births 66.2k → 51k; population 3.78M → 4.04M; urban share 60.5% → 69.7%; no data for the others in those years.
  • Over the last 10 years (2015–2025): fertility (TFR) 1.73 → 1.48; births 58.6k → 55.4k; population 5.19M (2015); internet 96.8% → 99%; urban share 81.2% → 83.6%; GDP per person (PPP) 87,688 PPP dollars → 95,173 PPP dollars; GDP growth 2% → 1.1%; inflation 2.2% → 3%.

How the indicators relate

  • Fertility (TFR) and internet (1990–2024, 35 years): levels are noticeably related, in opposite directions (r = −0.51); year-to-year changes show no reliable link (r = 0.21).
  • Fertility (TFR) and urban share (1960–2025, 66 years): levels are strongly related, in opposite directions (r = −0.89); year-to-year changes show no reliable link (r = −0.15). This looks like a shared trend: both change over time, but not in step from year to year.
  • Fertility (TFR) and GDP per person (PPP) (1990–2025, 36 years): levels are noticeably related, in opposite directions (r = −0.65); year-to-year changes show no reliable link (r = −0.01).
