What changed at the same time

  • The fastest decline of "Fertility (TFR)" was in 1989–1999: 3.64 → 2.00. Over the same years: births 1.86M → 1.34M; population 64.1M → 76.3M; internet 0% → 0.1%; urban share 19.1% → 23.8%; GDP per person (PPP) 2,468 PPP dollars → 4,119 PPP dollars; GDP growth 7.8% → 4.8%; inflation 95.8% → 4.1%.

How the indicators relate

  • Fertility (TFR) and internet (1990–2024, 30 years): levels are barely related (r = −0.35); year-to-year changes show no reliable link (r = −0.31).
  • Fertility (TFR) and urban share (1960–2025, 66 years): levels are strongly related, in opposite directions (r = −0.78); year-to-year changes show no reliable link (r = 0.11). This looks like a shared trend: both change over time, but not in step from year to year.
  • Fertility (TFR) and GDP per person (PPP) (1990–2025, 36 years): levels are noticeably related, in opposite directions (r = −0.60); year-to-year changes show no reliable link (r = −0.27).
